Hi, my name is Désirée Mathias, I’m 18 years old and I live in Sudbury Ontario. I attend Collège Notre Dame and I am graduating this year from high school. Although I am excited about moving onto a new and exciting chapter in my life, I really am going to miss this one.  Through these years, I have learned that we really must take in every moment, stop and smell the roses (sorry for the hackneyed expression) because time flies by so quickly and you don’t want to miss out on anything.  I really enjoy school because it allows us to enhance our knowledge on topics that can be used to understand things that occur in our surroundings. I am particularly fascinated by the things we learn in our science classes because it changes our perspective and exposes us to reality when we apply this information to everyday life.  But one of the best things about school is building relationships with people with whom we will be spending the best years of our lives.

The genuine everlasting friendship

For me, friends are very important therefore, I cherish them with all my heart. But there is one in particular that means the world to me and her name is Félicia. We’ve been friends for 13 years now and we’re still going strong. Although we may be different, we’re very alike in many ways and I am very grateful for our mutual peaceful nature because we have never fought or had an unpleasant argument. She is one of the people I cherish the most and for that reason, I am extremely thankful to have someone as wonderful as her in my life. Not only do I get to go to school and hang out with her, I even get to work at the same place as her!

I love my job!

I am a lifeguard at a recreation center and I absolutely love my job! As opposed to the common conception of a lifeguard, I don’t just sit on a chair and stare at people swimming. It’s actually more stressful than it seems because I always have to be alert and ready for any situation. It really is a lot of responsibility because I could potentially have the life of a person in my hands!  In addition, I am also a swimming instructor which is the best part of my job. I love teaching children how to swim because they’re so fun, hilarious, and not to mention adorable! I love to swim and have fun; hence this is the perfect part time employment for me.

Fear of fish prevents deep water swimming?

Apart from working and going to school, I also like to have a social life (just to clear that up). I love going to the beach and swim in the lake, especially when fighting the waves. Funny thing is, I’m terrified of fish so I’m always apprehensive when swimming in deep water. I never want to see a shark or a musky because I think I would faint! This fear of mine worsened after watching Jaws and Soul Surfer. One of my favourite pass times is painting. It is so relaxing and freeing to express myself through art and see what my hands are capable of creating.

In addition, i am very fascinated by holistic health practices because of  the various methods used to improve an individual’s state. For example, acupuncture, reflexology, hydrotherapy and Traditional Chinese medicine are a few among the multitude of non-invasive approaches towards better health. I really enjoy learning about these methods and the benefits that are associated with them. Due to my interest in this subject and my desire to improve the health of our society, I have decided to pursue a career in alternative medicine. This field is so vast and there are always new discoveries to be made, therefore I want to become a naturopath because it would not only be a rewarding career but it would also allow me to learn continuously.

This introductory post is brought to you by direct buy here in Ontario plus online retailer Velago Patio Furniture and a high tech Toronto roof leak fix company.

This will be my second pageant, the first being Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant. I am very excited to participate in this one and meet everyone that will be there as well! I am especially grateful for the incredible support I am receiving throughout this journey. Representing Sudbury at Miss Teen Canada- World is an amazing opportunity that I am incredibly eager to undertake.

Welcome Desiree Mathias. Good work on your first post. I would have added a link to something , maybe the pool website? or the Notre Dame College website? but otherwise great work on introducing yourself. Fear of fish prevents deep water swimming? That would make a good subtitle. You can add headers to your posts when you have more than one thing to talk about. Good to know we have a blogger in Sudbury this year!
